If you have specific accommodation requirements, there are a number of ways we can help.
Accessibility and adaptations
We have a number of DDA rooms available, as well as making necessary adaptations to bedrooms to make our accommodation accessible for all.
Examples of possible adaptations and adjustments we can provide:
- Pull cords
- Grab rails
- Shower chairs
- Wheelchair accessibility
- Motorised door opening
- Altered kitchen facilities
If you are a new student that requires an adaptation, please state this on your application. If your application can be supported, you will be allocated a room and contacted by the accommodation team to discuss further amendments.
Students applying with other complex care needs
As for most students, we understand the benefit of staying on campus, especially when it affects medical ailments, so we try to accommodate all complex care needs to create an inclusive environment and allow everyone the full student experience.
When you make your application, you will need to confirm you are applying on medical grounds.
To clarify: Medical applications for accommodation are specifically for students whose medical condition significantly impacts their living arrangements, and they require additional support from the University.
Once you have submitted your application, you will be sent our additional needs application form. Please complete this form alongside providing any additional evidence you deem necessary for the team to review. This will need to be returned to the accommodation team specific to your location. We have a limited number of rooms for students applying on medical grounds, so please include as much information as possible.
Accommodation for current students
Following our allocation policy, campus accommodation is strictly reserved for students in their first academic year of study. After this, students are expected to secure their own private accommodation. You can find out more information about private accommodation here.
It is possible for students with complex care needs to continue living in campus accommodation. However, each student is considered on a case-by-case basis and all medical evidence you provide will be considered. We will send correspondence informing you if we are able to continue to support your independent living.
Please note: You are responsible for notifying the Accommodation team of any changes or updates to your conditions and support needs. Failure to do so may affect re-application eligibility. There is no requirement to disclose your specific medical condition, unless you require additional support from the University or are a risk to yourself or others.
